Rapper Cassper Nyovest is on cloud nine after bagging the Artist Of The Decade award at the 2021 South African Hip Hop Awards. The nominees for that category were Kuli Chana, Kwesta, Riky Rick, AKA, Nadia Nakai, Da Les, Cassper, Emtee, K.O, Nasty C Stogie T, A Reece, Youngsta CPT, Gigi Lamayne and Zakwe and he reigned supreme.
The winners for the ninth edition of the award ceremony were revealed today. Taking to his Instagram account, he announced to his followers that he had won the award and he was beaming with pride.
"From now on, call me ARTIST OF THE DECADE or else I'm not responding!!!!! Thank you sooo much to all the fans!!! My team!!! God !!! I'm about to celebrate for the rest of the year!!!! #SAHHA2021," he wrote.
If he wins, Cassper has tweeted that he will go on a shopping spree and buy everything and we cannot wait to see what he will buy for himself. βIf I win artist or the decade tomorrow, I'm going off. I'm buying everything. I'm getting lit. Y'all haters better have your fingers crossed that I don't cause ya'll know me ... Mara you know what, if I don't win then I'm still buying everything just to sh*t on the haters.β Knowing how he has an expensive taste, surely he will spare no expense.
Among the winners is Big Zulu, who won the Best Album and Best Digital Sales, Best Male, Song Of The Year and Ubuntu Activism. Rapper Boity Thulo won the Best Female Award. A Reece and Riky Rick also won.
It is no secret that Cassper has contributed immensely to the growth of SA hip hop. As a game changer, he has won numerous awards. The artist has inspired a number of hip hop stars to pursue their dreams.
The Mademoni hitmaker announced in 2015 that he would endeavor to fill the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg. The rapper was not initially predicted to fill up the Dome, but he ended up filling the venue with 20 000 of his fans, making him the first artist to do so.
He recently received major backlash after revealing that he had ventured into amapiano. Hitting back at Cassper who trolled him for doing Amapiano, he said, "I don't appreciate how you have made this situation bigger than what it actually is. I have never said I am going to save SA Hip Hop. All I said is that SA Hip Hop is uniting. If you jumped ship, then stay there and let us fix what you broke," he said.
"What I meant by that is that You keep pushing this narrative of being on either side "I'll see Hip Hop in 3 years etc." "If you tell me I'm the greatest I'll jump on a Hip Hop song again with one of the new kids." and that's not right in my opinion.
"I feel you should have the right to do anything you wish and make both genres with a positive attitude without talking down on any of the genres. Also please let's not forget that SA Hip Hop built your success in the first place. You can do any genre and still push SA music as a whole forward as you have major influence.
