Although Cassper is more into Amapiano now, many of his fans feel he deserves the award more than all the other artists.
"SA Hip Hop from 2013 to 2018 without Cassper Nyovest wouldn't have reached its peak the way it did... Just because AKA and KO have been here longer than him doesn't mean their impact equates to Cassper's impact in the game.
"In fact nobody and I mean NOBODY comes close Cassper's impact in the game, abo AKA and KO didn't talk about YouTube views until Cassper arrived, they didn't fill up arenas and stadiums until Cassper arrived..."
"The artist of the decade award should go to either AKA or K.O. Dudes stood the test of time . Serving the game heat for more than 10 years. Cassper Nyovest came up and changed the game also but K.O and AKA musically … they champions."
"From the fill ups, platinum albums, hits every year, endorsement deals, most talked about, own his sneakers, versatility, biggest fan base, best live performances....CASSPER NYOVEST deserves this award!"
Cassper Nyovest has not said anything about his nomination as yet, and maybe it's because of his beef with the SA Hip Hop industry. Even though he said he would never release another rap joint currently and would wait at least 3 years, he treated is fans to a song they deem a hit called 'The Pressure.'
The song received rave reviews from people as he broke down his wall and exposed his vulnerability. On the song, he spoke about how he felt after Nadia dumped him.
Cassper advised the industry to be more open to working with other genres. "Hip hop needs to stop excluding itself from the growth of South African music. It's not a competition, it's all the same thing. Embrace the new, learn and feed off one another, or sink."
His decision to take a break from rap gained him enemies as Costa Titch slammed him publicly. Their problems started when Costa said, “SA Hip Hop is uniting right now. If you jumped ship, stay there and let us fix what you broke -respectfully.”
Hitting back at Cassper who trolled him for doing Amapiano, he said, "I don't appreciate how you have made this situation bigger than what it actually is. I have never said I am going to save SA Hip Hop. All I said is that SA Hip Hop is uniting. If you jumped ship, then stay there and let us fix what you broke," he said.
"What I meant by that is that You keep pushing this narrative of being on either side "I'll see Hip Hop in 3 years etc." "If you tell me I'm the greatest I'll jump on a Hip Hop song again with one of the new kids." and that's not right in my opinion.
"I feel you should have the right to do anything you wish and make both genres with a positive attitude without talking down on any of the genres. Also please let's not forget that SA Hip Hop built your success in the first place. You can do any genre and still push SA music as a whole forward as you have major influence.
