Twitter blogger Musa Khawula created some doubts in people's heads after he reported that Cassper Nyovest does not really own Billiato. The alcoholic beverage was launched in late 2021 at his home and became a drink of the town for the first few weeks of its release.

"Meet the owner and director of Billiato, David de Mardt. Billiato is an alcoholic brand paraded by Cassper Nyovest as his own. David de Mardt is a CEO of Cruz and other alcoholic brands said to be owned by South African celebrities," said the tweep.
A debate ensued thereafter with people demanding answers from Cassper. However, in a previous interview, Cassper did clarify the business side of Billiato and how he never spent a cent in the creation. In an interview with Slikour he said he does own majority of the drink, even though he never spent a cent on it.
"I never even spent a cent to create the brand. Took millions to start off the brand and I own majority of the brand. But I literally let people around me just pump the money in," he said. Cassper has responded to Musa's claims and said they are false.
"I am the majority shareholder of Billiato. Not only am I an owner but I'm the founder, the CEO and Marketing director!!! I own my products. I'm not a brand ambassador or an influencer. The support from the people has been sooo amazing. Please do keep supporting us. Thank you."
He then said there are people out there trying to start a smear campaign to discredit his brand but he urged his fans to continue supporting his brand
"Billiato applying too much pressure I see. Your support is shaking the tables of these big businesses. Don't be fooled. They probably planning a smear campaign as we speak. We will not fold. We taking over. Thank you for your support. The is only the beginning!!!"
Billiato retails for R299.99 in select stores and also online. In his interview on The Banques And Venom Show, he said they tried to make an easy flavoured drink that is nothing like vodka or gin, but something people can easily drink.
He described it as a 'one of a kind shooter' and wants to allow people who drink it have an idea or two of how wealth tastes like. “This is for the dreamers! The future billionaires! Here’s a toast to us. This summer is gonna be lit! This is all we gonna be drinking! Luxury!”
