The country is still mourning the passing of the award-winning rapper Riky Rick who was laid to rest earlier this week. Riky allegedly committed suicide after his long battle with suicide.

The rapper had opened up about his struggle with depression several times. He told LAB LIVE, during his interview that, his struggle started soon after he lost his father.

"I lost him at a time when I needed that voice. A lot of people don’t understand that you can never replace the voice of a father. It wasn’t like he just died, it was like 18 years, living with your dad for a year, and then going back to your mom. I love being with my mom but living with him for a year ... A child is never meant to live without his parents,” he said adding that he lost his father at the time when he needed him the most.

He continued, "I was so upset, like ‘why my life? Why does my life have to turn to s**t when all the kids that I went to school with had both parents coming to see them at football games, coming to watch them at basketball games, bringing them picnic sacks? I didn’t get that and I didn’t get to see you after. I was so angry, so angry, super angry.”

Speaking at his funeral, Radio and TV personality Sizwe Dlomo said Riky had a genuine spirit. “I feel compelled and a sense of duty to try and contextualize a man that so many knew but so few understood. I’m here to honour Rikhado Makhado an imperfect man who was constantly trying to do better.

“Riky was always either offering guidance or seeking it. I’m not the sort of person to share conversations I had with people but what I can tell you is that the last few times when I spoke to Riky was that he felt we should help. That’s the kind of a man that he was.”
