DJ Sbu has educated the masses on what it's like making bad financial decisions. He used his own mistakes as examples which his followers can learn from.
On the latest episode of The Penuel Show podcast on YouTube, DJ Sbu got candid on how he used to overspend during his younger days, and what caused him to downgrade to a more affordable lifestyle.
“When it comes to finances, I’ve fallen and I’ve got myself to blame and nobody else. From those Porches and just that lifestyle. I’ve lived the lifestyle, I’ve traveled, I’ve driven all these great cars, these sports cars. I’ve lived the nicest life, the celebrity life, partying and just throwing parties … as you grow older you know better and do better … I was overspending… I was proud about it but now I realise that I was dumb,” he explained.
He added, “I looked richer than I actually was.”
His downgraded lifestyle caused him to make the decision to not own a car. He said he drives his company cars instead because he has been building.
“I don’t have a car by choice and I always tell people that I’ve been building. ”
DJ Sbu concluded by saying he does not view himself as some guru but rather a person who has lived and learned from his past mistakes.
“I wouldn't say I've played the game and I've passed, like I'm some guru. I'm just walking my journey and the people guiding me, that I cannot touch, and the higher power, God, made me feel comfortable to live the way I'm living now, making the decisions I'm making. I've learnt in business.”
DJ Sbu sparked outrage when he debuted a new scruffy look. Many people started making assumptions about the DJs mental health. But he slammed people and told them he is healthy and he baths despite what many might say about him.
“Apparently people are saying I don’t bath. Guys, come on, there are more serious things we could be discussing in this country. Leave my beard and hair alone," he said. He added that his longevity in the industry makes him not want to prove anything to anyone, "I have been working for many years guys and I don’t have anything to prove. I’m good.”
“Ni ngi jwayela kabi mara (y'all are now being very disrespectful) but I love guys anyway. I am not shaving this beard and my hair. It doesn’t mean that when one lets their hair or beard grow, they don’t bath. On a serious note, for those who care about me, I’m good and healthy. I’m on point. My team is okay, my family is good, children are awesome, business is growing and we are working.”
