From superstar to broke artist
Many were surprised when the story broke on Dr Malinga’s possessions being auctioned off by SARS due to his inability to pay his taxes. This is as Dr Malinga in the 2010s was one of the hottest properties with hits for days.
A fact which was affirmed by the fact that he bought land in which he attempted to renovate into a lodge. But as the 2010s began to come to an end, so did his fame. As a result bookings went dry and subsequently, the legend then became just another forgotten artist.
That is until MacG featured him on Africa’s podcast and Dr Malinga shared his touching story of losing everything and no one being there to help when the taxman started demanding his money. Touched by his story and led through the actions of Makhadzi who booked him for her one woman show.
It would mark his ascension back to the spotlight. A fact which has resulted in Thanks Bye being a trending topic on the blue app’s timeline. Moreover, through the donations he received, he was able to pay off R100 000 of the amount due to SARS. But his good fortune does not seem to be on the decline.
Dr Malinga reminded to pay his taxes
Taking to Twitter, Dr Malinga affirmed that his bookings were picking up so much that he is on his way to being fully booked again. A fact which his fans and supporters of his comeback celebrated.
But there were also those that took to the timeline to remind him to pay his taxes this time.
However, this is not the first time that Dr Malinga was reminded to never forget about the tax man. The first time was when he was confirmed to have earned over R100 000 from donations from the public and notable names like Black Coffee.
Tweeps took to the comments section of the post to remind him that he will need to declare the donations he received and the amounts in order to avoid another situation of him having his possessions repossessed and subsequently auctioned off.
Whether or not he has taken heed of the advice given to him remains to be seen. Moreover, whether he remains as humble as he has been in light of his current financial situation after he has fully recovered from it also remains to be seen. This is as during his decline from fame and money, he was ready to insult and twar with the likes of Nasty C, Focalistic and DJ Maphorisa.
