Last night, saw AKA give the public a first taste of his highly anticipated upcoming album, Touch My Blood, which will be released on Friday.
Despite him tiding them over with a number of singles and a joint project with Anatii, AKA's fans have been begging for him to release an album and after months of hard work and planning, he has finally obliged.
The intimate event, held at Moyo in Melrose Arch was MC'd by AKA's childhood friend, Mpho 'Mpho Popps' Modikane and was attended by AKA's mom, Lynn Forbes, her beau, Xavier Saer, DJ Zinhle, Kairo, Nicole Nyaba, Moozlie, Rouge, Ms Cosmo, L-Tido, Tebello Motsoane and more.
In between moments of doting over his adorable daughter, AKA took his guests through his new album track by track, explaining the message behind each song as well as giving a glimpse into the production process for each song. Fans will be happy to know that AKA's sampling remains unparalleled and the album will feature a lot of old sounds made new.
He also teased a preview of what looks like the first music video off of the album for his latest single, 'Fully In.'
My personal favourite from the album is a track called 'Fela In Versace' which he collaborated with Burna Boy on. In fact, AKA himself seems to love the song as he asked for it to be played twice.
Other collaborations on the album include the likes of L-Tido and Kwesta and seemingly no collaborations with the women of the industry.
Songs that we have previously heard that made it on to the album include songs like Sweet Fire, Star Signs, The World is Yours, Amen and Beyonce (which, as he predicted in the song) kinda "broke" the internet.
Heartbreak, and most importantly, his relationship with Bonang Matheba, are a big theme in the album - so if you thought 'Beyonce' was harsh, wait until you hear 'Daddy Issues II.'
Despite the fact that it seems as though he used his album as an outlet for his feelings, AKA states that the primary theme for Touch My Blood is his growth, starting from when he first entered the entertainment industry right up to this current point.
Physical and digital copies of Touch My Blood will drop this Friday.
