Kwesta is undeniably a local Hip-Hop legend. His career spans over 16 years with his iconic albums including DaKAR which was released as his sophomore album back in 2013 with hits from the album including his breakout single Boom Shaka Laka, featuring Kid X.

Since then, his raspy voice has been a signature which was part of what made the Hip-Hop classic Ngud’ with Cassper Nyovest such a notable Hip-Hop classic to date. However, it can be argued that in the past few years, Kwesta has been hailed more as a legend for his discography rather than his latest music releases.
This is as in 2021, he released his fourth official studio album titled g.o.d Guluva which failed to make an impact in the Hip-Hop landscape. As such, there were mixed reactions back in 2022 when he released his joint studio album with Amapiano great Kabza de Small titled Speak N Vrostaan.
In light of the decline in terms of his relevance within the current Hip-Hop landscape and local music landscape as a whole. It does pose an interesting question considering Kwesta’s latest boldest move.
Can Kwesta Fill Up Big Top Arena, Carnival City?
Cassper Nyovest pioneered a trend in South Africa when he made the bold move of headlining Ticketpro Dome back in 2015 with his one-man show Fill Up… Since then there have been other local artists like Dr. Tumi that have also achieved the feat of filling up their one-man show versions of their own making.
However, to date, Cassper is still the only Hip-hop artist to successfully fill up venues as the draw card to a one-man concert. As such, it seems that Kwesta is the latest Hip-Hop legend to attempt his own version of a Fill Up event.
Taking to social media recently, Kwesta made the bold announcement that on Saturday, 12 August 2023, he is set to celebrate his 16th year in the music industry in a big way. This is as he has planned his first one-man concert which is set to take place at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City in Johannesburg.
Titled The 16 Bar, the concert’s venue is cited to have a capacity crowd of 5 000 which Kwesta will need to fill to capacity to prove that he is a headlining artist worth a one-man show.
In light of the fact that Kwesta has just announced his intentions to fill up Big Top Arena, there has not been an announcement on the artists who will also make the supporting acts of the night. However, it can be safe to assume that Kabza de Small will make an appearance.
Moreover, friend and long-time collaborator Thabsie will also be featured during the festivities. This is as Thabsie is part of two hit singles which include Kwesta. Namely, Kwesta’s hit single Ngiz’fela Ngawe, which was Thabsie breakout song, and Macala with lauded vocalist Mlindo the Vocalist. Tickets are already available via Computicket.
