Talking politics, Lasizwe declared his support for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, saying that they have always been pro-LGBTQI+. Coconut Kelz did not seem to buy the story, though, and seems to draw support from some tweeps regarding the political parties stance on the community.
Same political party that sent stooges to parliament to vote against the Civil Union Amendment Act, if I might add.
Oh but don’t stress, those stooges didn’t know what they were voting for. They just pitched for the free Whiskey and red button excitement😍

Stop scoring cheap PR points. Queers are not dumb and we are certainly not influenced by clowns like Lasizwe or even Somizi to vote for your party!
Try another stunt!

The comedian has been open about his political affiliations, though. In fact, he just recently became the party’s president for the LGBTQI+. He made the announcement on his social media pages, sharing a video posted by a tweep, showing the celebrity’s face on an EFF poster labelled “President of the LGBTQI+”.

How are you the president of a political party’s LGBTQIA+ cohort, when you don’t even do fuck all for your community, but put a wig on for pay?
— #Makhulu Album Out Now (@THEOKINGB) November 1, 2021
Not sure which stunt you’re trying to pull but billboard is deeply offensive and spreading misinformation. @lasizwe is NOT our President, never have, never will be. There is no President in the LGBTIQ+. https://t.co/mGfMFx8p71

Not LaSizwe being a self appointed president of an entire community 😭. Yaqondba lanto mayizonyule 💀

Lasizwe is not the only public figure who has come under fire for declaring their political leanings and for campaigning for a political party. As the election season was heating up, many celebrities declared their preferences and got dragged by social media users for it.

Key among them was Makhadzi, who was shamed for donning ANC regalia after she was invited by President Cyril Ramaphosa to perform at a party event. The backlash was so bad that she had to delete the picture, as fans felt that celebrities were being paid to influence negative politics, even against their own convictions. Fear of such backlash had DJ Lamiez swore to stay off politics for the sake of her career.

Lasizwe also brought up some of his past controversies on the show. The main one that came to mind was the R2 Million that he trended for a while back. Speaking to Kelz, he said “I wish I had stolen it” when asked about the funds he was accused of stealing. The R2 million had been raised as part of the #R10GoesALongWay campaign, which was supposed to help students struggling to raise tertiary fees.

He called SAns ungrateful, and swore he wouldn’t do the campaign again, as he was hurt by the accusations, and didn’t understand why none of the beneficiaries was coming out to defend him. His official position was that the funds were not stolen, and that students did get the assistance as promised.
You do bad they crucify, you good they still crucify you.
I am honestly hurt this time around. I think this is my first and last time doing #R10GoesALongWay
To all the students that benefited from this, please do your best and pass!.. don’t do it for me do it for yourself.❤️

Though he seemed genuinely hurt by the whole saga, it’s great that he finds something to laugh about it now. We hope it does not deter him from other philanthropic endeavours in the future.
