Legendary Gospel Singer Dies

Mzansi has reportedly lost another music legend in Peter Mokoena. The news was shared by family member Steve Harris on social media.  According to Harris statement, the musician succumbed to a short illness on the 4th of July while he was in the hospital. The family has asked for some privacy to mourn their loved ones.

“Legend Peter Mokoena, singer and Producer has died, he passed away after a short illness at the hospital this morning, It is with sadness that we announce the passing away of Peter Mokoena on the 04 July 2021,” shared Harris.

“He was our brother, father, uncle, mentor, role model, Singer and producer, He will surely be missed by his family and close friends. The family asked for privacy to mourn.”

Renowned Gospel singer, Dr Rebecca Malope took to social media to express her heartbreak over the news of her friend’s passing and sent messages of condolences to the Mokoena family. She also thanked Peter for his contribution to the entertainment industry.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of the Legendary Peter Mokoena. My heart goes out to his family and friends during this difficult time.” She said. “He was truly a blessing to the music industry. We thank him for his great contribution. May God give him eternal rest and the family strength to bear this great pain. Lala Ngoxolo”

This comes off the back of the untimely passing of legendary singer, Dr Steve Kekana who passed away last week aged 63-years-old. The news of Kekana’s passing was confirmed by his manager to the Sowetan.

“Yes it’s true, Ntate Steve Kekana is no more. He died in the early hours of this morning and we are waiting for more details from the family,” Majozi said. I spoke to his wife and she confirmed that he’s no more. He was fine the last time I spoke to him. I spoke to him last week over the phone and we were having an event around him but had to cancel due to the latest lockdown regulations.

The entertainment industry is also mourning the passing of popular Muvhango star Mutodi Neshehe, who, according to reports succumbed to Covid19. His family stated on the 1st of July 2021.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Mutodi Neshehe on July 1, 2021. He was our brother, uncle, father, mentor, role model and actor. He will be sorely missed by his family and close friends,” the statement read.

Nsheshe who starred in many popular shows on South African television, was born in Johannesburg to actress Thelma Neshehe and Joseph Neshehe. In his early teens, he relocated to America to further his studies. He returned to South Africa in the early 2000s. Tributes have been pouring in for the late actor on social media. Actress and singer Gail Mbalane sent her condolences to the family of the actor.
