The Top 30 contestants vying for the title of Miss South Africa 2023, will be announced live at 19h00 on Wednesday, May 24, on the Miss South Africa app.

This is according to the Miss SA organization. The pageant recently made dramatic changes to this year’s rules regarding entrance requirements for the Miss SA pageant.
Previously, married women with children were not allowed to compete for the coveted title, but this year the pageant has pushed boundaries and they will be allowed to compete.

Stephanie Weil, CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation, said: “This year we have pushed more boundaries than ever before and we are delighted to welcome all women who are ready to step onto our leadership platform and be the next ambassador for South Africa.

“We, as women, are so many things; we can be business owners, leaders, innovators, influencers, mothers, daughters, philanthropists, role models, ambassadors and queens all at the same time. Showcasing the multi-diverse nature of all of this will be at the core of the competition. Miss South Africa is no longer just a one-night pageant – viewers are really going to get to know the finalists during the television show.”

Weil concluded, “This is a game changer for South African women, and it’s a bonus for us as an organisation, as it means we have a much larger pool of women eligible to enter.”

The Miss SA organization recently announced that Miss South Africa 2022 runner-up Ayanda Thabethe will represent Mzansi at the Miss Supranational pageant in Poland on 14 July.

“I have some big shoes to fill. Miss South Africa 2021 Lalela Mswane is the reigning Miss Supranational and she in turn took the crown from Miss Namibia Chanique Rabe. I am looking forward to this next step in my journey. However, just as important to me, is the launch of Project Khulisa which I hope will make a difference in communities who need it most.”

Thabethe has always been passionate about food security and nutrition and was in her final year of a BSc in Dietetics and Human Nutrition at the University of KwaZulu Natal when she entered the pageant last year.

I believe that good food is the beginning of a better life for everyone and nourishment is the cornerstone. My goal is to improve the future of all South Africans through nutritional intervention and innovation by mobilising food solutions through initiatives such as community vegetable gardens, food parcels and education around diet. By breaking the poverty cycle, I hope to combat malnutrition and hunger,” she said.

Throughout her Project Khulisa campaign (“khulisa” is the isiZulu word for “to grow” or “magnify”), Thabethe will be sharing cost effective food recipes while starting discussions on social media around how what we eat affects our health.
