JazziQ announced as the new face of Spitz
On Thursday, 30 June 2022, Spitz released a formal statement confirming that JazziQ was appointed as the new face of Spitz. In the shared formal announcement, Spitz focused on JazziQ preparing for his debut as a podcaster with JazziQ and Friends, explaining that:
“Spitz Shoes, today, announced the official launch of “JazziQ & Friends” in Conversation at Spitz; a YouTube podcast hosted by award-winning DJ and record producer Mr JazziQ. The show will explore amapiano, the most popular subgenre of South African dance music, how the sound is evolving and dominating the airwaves. Our guests will discuss today’s most important issues in the music industry and transformative trends through insightful and engaging conversations which span news, their personal lives and upliftment through amapiano.”
Ahead of the premiere of the first episode, JazziQ has already revealed that the first artist to be featured as a “friend” is rapper turned Amapiano musician, Reason a.k.a Sizwe Alakine. The two will talk about Reason’s upcoming album and his transition from Hip-Hop to the Yanos.
Speaking on the news of his ambassadorship, JazziQ was quoted as saying, “I am super excited about this partnership, I have been rocking Carvelas since I was a kid and having SPITZ come on board as an official partner in helping me tell the narrative around Amapiano, is ground breaking. The podcast is a first of many projects between the popular brand and Mr JazziQ”
While this makes for amazing news in advancing the story and documentation of Amapiano. Another detail that the deal between JazziQ and Spitz Shoes revealed, was that the shoe company has a “type” when it comes to ambassadors.
Mr JazziQ joins Big Zulu with Spitz partnership
In 2021, Big Zulu made a splash when it was announced that he was the official ambassador for Carvela by Spitz Shoes. While Big Zulu received kudos for the fact. It slowly turned sour when Big Zulu was being referred to as a “baddie.” This was after social media users took turns in lambasting Big Zulu for his poses, which were dragged for being hyper femine.
But Big Zulu was not the only one who received this backlash. JazziQ too was at the receiving end of being accused for being hyper feminine. But it seems that it all paid off considering that it garnered the attention of Spitz Shoes, who have embraced both Big Zulu and JazziQ.
It seems that Spitz Shoes is making it clear that despite the backlash the artists have received for wearing and endorsing Carvelas, that it stands with them. A fact which is impressive to see. But it does suggest that the shoe company does have a “type” when selecting popular media personalities that will endorse their brand.
