ZAlebs is out in full force celebrating the launch of the 2022 #OnThePulse paid internship initiative by the leading mobile and telecommunications company- MTN.
The MTN Pulse initiative will give youths under 25 years a chance to win internships, mentorships, and a golden opportunity to work alongside industry leaders such as Robot Boii and Uncle Waffles who have been named as this years captains.
Stats SA recently reported that in the first quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate among young graduates (aged 15-24 years) declined from 40,3% to 32,6%. On the other hand, the unemployment rate for those aged between 25-34 years, rose by close to 7% reaching an overall high of 22.4%, although many have contested that number and believe it to be higher.
With such high numbers, it is refreshing to see corporations such as MTN stepping in to bridge that unemployment gap, by helping the younger generation of South Africans who are a critical driving force to the country's economic growth.

What is MTN Pulse?
The 2022 campaign #OnThePulse is a package deal aimed at youth between the ages of 17 and 25 specifically designed and offered by MTN.
The big idea behind the initiative is designed to empower the youth by allowing them to “Dream big, hustle harder and blaze a trail with a price plan made only for under-25s”. The initiative also aims to equip the youth with skills and working experience to make them more employable within the workforce

In her conclusion, Mathebula explained the value of the youth in economic growth.
“Our youth form an integral part of growing the economy, and the onus is on corporate SA to invest in equipping the youth with education, skills, and opportunities to progress. Our youth are our future workforce, and only by working together will we be able to make a positive change.”
