It’s no secret that Naomi Campbell loves South Africa. The legendary supermodel first came to Mzansi back in 1993, and she’s never looked back. We’ve seen her beautiful relationship with Nelson Mandela and his family. Speaking of Madiba, Naomi said the biggest lesson Tata taught her was to use who she is to help others.

This was during an interview on Kaya FM’s The B-Side with Bridget Masinga this week. Naomi landed in the country this week for the launch of the Global Citizen Festival which will be held in December.

She is also a producer for this much-anticipated festival which will feature international and local artists such as Beyoncé, Jay Z, Chris Martin, Usher, Wizkid, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage and others.

Her love for our country is evident – she supports our stars whether they are in music or sports.

She told Bridget: “I feel very connected to South Africa. And I didn’t understand that feeling either when I was younger. I was like ‘what is it?’ The people that I’ve been with, what this country strives to be and should be, and in the continent of Africa, even now I feel there’s so much that they should have that they don’t. And I wanna make sure that they do.”

She added that she feels her work is just beginning. “And this is in my line of work in fashion. I’ve spoken recently about a Vogue Africa and we will have one. We have so much to give in Africa and I feel like why are we not getting it back. This is my mission, really, and I will do until I’m not here.”

We can definitely see that Naomi is on a mission here. And what are our thoughts so far? She’s succeeding.

Remember how proud she was when Wizkid walked the runway for Dolce and Gabbana? She is a woman who is all about making sure that Africa gets the respect and recognition it deserves.
