The poet, activist and musician took to Twitter to reveal, without going into much detail, that her ancestors choose which hairstyles she is allowed to have. As a sangoma in training, she says she often has to ask permission to have a certain hairstyle.
Ntsiki said she had braids on but as time went by they got too heavy and is forced to take them out. She first had to ask permission to have them on.
"Am I the only training sangoma who gets to a point where the braids are too heavy and sometimes have to ask for permission to have them? Like now... I have to take this shit out. It's draining me," she wrote.
Ntsiki has always been a person who is proud of her ancestors and her beliefs. She also dabbles in beadwork as well.
Ntsiki is just the latest ZAleb to join the ancestral journey but many have called a few out for 'faking' such things. Scoop Makhathini called out celebs who fake their ancestral calling saying it had become "fashionable" in the entertainment industry.
“All of a sudden, every Tom, Dick and Thandi is having a calling...I’m just gonna relax and watch the liars play themselves out. The ancestral lashing will be unavoidable. JHB folk will bite anything, even s**t that can't be bitten or faked. Yonke into bafuna ukuyendza ‘i-fashion’,” the TV presenter wrote on Twitter.
A few days ago, ZAlebs reported that Skeem Saam's Eunice had completed her training and posted pics of her wearing the regalia.
Nyan Nyan's Luyanda Potwana re-introduced himself as a sangoma as well, "You know me as a South African television host. However, this is a side of me that is unknown to the public. My ancestral spiritual calling. After all, I am my ancestors – and my ancestors are me.
"I kept this away from social media, not because I was ashamed of it – I just wanted to walk the journey quietly. However it is now time to reintroduce me."
