Hosted by SuperSport’s Thato Moeng and comedian, radio personality Skhumba Hlophe, The Saturday Showdown will see five teams, captained by celebrities, battle it out for a R3.5 million grand prize.

With the atmosphere and competitiveness of an arena game, and the heart and wit of a game’s night with friends, The Saturday Showdown is the boldest and biggest game show to grace screens.

“We’re thrilled to premiere an epic game show like The Saturday Showdown on Mzansi Magic – something to keep our viewers entertained and engaged. It’s the kind of show that will appeal to viewers across age and interest – be they into sports or pop culture. It’s the latest in the hyper-local content strategy that we are putting out, content that is keeping up with viewers’ evolving and eclectic tastes,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
Produced by Red Pepper Pictures, The Saturday Showdown is a fun and games, laugh-a-minute game show that’s also a fierce battle between very competitive teams who are fighting for the life changing prize money. Not forgetting our viewers at home, they also have an opportunity to win R50, 000 every week.  So, how will it work exactly? Five teams comprising of three players  including a DSTV rewards studio player will face off over 13 episodes.

The teams will go head-to-head in a series of games testing skills (such as shooting hoops), luck (think: big wheel spins), puzzles and pop culture activities; karaoke, anyone?). All this culminates in a face off where the teams go head to head in a game that encapsulates all of the above. Who will emerge victorious?

Skhumba recently returned to Kaya FM. The comedian and Thomas host one of the country's biggest breakfast shows and fans were delighted for their return. The duo is nominated as Favourite Radio Personalities at the 2022 DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards, with Skhumba also scoring a Favourite Comedian of The Year nominee as well.
