Radio’s favourite duo Thomas Msengana and Skhumba Hlophe of Kaya FM are trending on Twitter this morning following their return to the airwaves with a new “morning show with a difference” which also served as a  celebratory show for their first anniversary as the breakfast co-hosts at the commercial station. Today the seasoned broadcaster Thomas and comedian extraordinaire Skhumba had media mogul Somgaga as their guest co-host and avid listeners were living for the show, engaging on social media and calling in to make the new Thomas And Skhumba In The Morning show a big success.

After a couple of weeks off the air, the radio duo shared their excitement to be back and promised online fans and listeners a different take on approaching their show. Thomas who’s also popular as Bad Boy T shared that he’d been excited to be back on Kaya FM and that it’s an answered prayer while Skhumba Hlophe confidently shared that he’s more excited than nervous to be back on the airwaves for this new show.

The two beloved radio presenters also mentioned that their show will continue to be above the rest by offering authentic and relevant content for their listeners. Thomas assured the Kaya listeners all over the country that they will form part of their family and get an insight into two close friends who will be having chilled conversations in light, fun, and yet informative and entertaining ways on weekdays between 6 - 9 AM.

The Kaya FM breakfast show is also one of the most listened to breakfast shows in the country irrespective of Kaya FM being a Johannesburg airing commercial station, its reach and listenership are far wider than just Gauteng. The presenters said that they are now doing a breakfast show but a morning show.  As a result, Thomas And Skhumba In The Morning presenters have both been nominated as Favourite Radio Personalities at the 2022 DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards, with Skhumba also scoring a Favourite Comedia of The Year nominee as well.

In his recent interview with Tshisa Live, Skhumba Hlophe said, “We are worried just like you guys because people are always thinking about how bad this thing can be and not looking at how great this can be. We feel like it's going to be great, that this combo is going to go down in the books of morning shows as one of the greatest on the radio. Not on Kaya but on radio. They decided to pair us up and we are going to give the show our very best.”

On today's show with Somizi, the presenters together with their show producer DJ Keyes broadcasted in style, at Kaya FM’s kitchen where they had chef Naledi prepare breakfast live on the radio show.

Somizi who had a close interaction with another Kaya FM presenter, Tbose Mokwele reflected on his first-ever radio presenting gig where he, together with Tbose made history and spoke about homosexuality for the first time on South African radio. He also mentioned when asked about his coming out story that he’d always been true to himself and never ever had to come out to anyone.
Somgaga also spoke about his adversities that he never shies away from. He mention that he’d been down but had never been out. “My downfall was something beyond my control. It was not caused by anything like substance abuse, fortunately. So it made me able to sober up, and focus, and that made it easier for me to come back,” said Somizi. He also spoke fondly about his friendship with musician Vusi Nova who he affectionately described as “my worst friend,” he said that Vusi act like a superstar even amongst their friendship groups.
