Many times we choose our journeys, we take the bus, train, planes, cars or sometimes walk to our intended destination.
Most times, we get there, other times, we cancel our journey while halfway there. No matter what happens along the way, in most cases, we decide how and where to end the journey in the way in which we choose.
One journey whose outcome we don't get to decide is the journey of life when the proverbial “angel of death” knocks, there’s no way out.
Many have cheated death, maybe with organ transplants, but with the realities of life, many have not.
Locally we have had a dark cloud with a number of South African celebrities who died recently between 2021 and 2022.
The Pain, the agony, and curses that flew around are unmatched. Here are some celebrity deaths that shook us.
Shona Ferguson
In a year when everybody was waiting to see what was in store for Mzansi’s power couple Shona and Connie Ferguson’s 20th anniversary, life had other plans.
When COVID-19 hit many did not know its diverse effects, many livelihoods were lost and even worse, lives were lost.
Mzansi was left deeply wounded after it was confirmed that among those who died was Shona, The film industry star helped many around the country wind up in stressful times with his work.
May he continue resting in peace.
Killer Kau
Among South African Celebrities who died recently is Sakhile Hlatshwayo, popularly known as Killer Kau. The truth is, all the stars had aligned perfectly for him and seemed destined for greatness.
The Amapiano sensation was already lighting up dancehalls across the country and it was only a matter of time before his name was to be known all across the continent and the world.
Killer Kau died in a car accident as he was heading to do what he loved most and what we loved him most for doing, “A performance”.
He was alongside fellow Amapiano singer Mpura.
He died on August 9, 2021.
Mpura
Mongezi Thomas Stuurman, famously known as Mpura, is yet another among the South African Celebrities who died recently.
At only 25, the rapper and electric performer had already blessed us with hits like "Umsebenzi Wethu” among others and was on the upward trajectory and there really was no stopping him. The sky was the limit.
The cruel hand of death picked him up at a road accident which claimed both his life and Amapiano singer Killer Kau who were headed to a perfomance.
He died on August 9, 2021.
Anele Tembe
One of the South African celebrities who died recently was Anele Tembe, the young beautiful and curvy sensation, had it all laid before her. No other future looked brighter than hers.
She was destined for greatness, her fairy tale with Artiste AKA was admirable and how far they were to take it will never be known.
When news broke that she fell from the 10th floor of the Cape Town-based Pepperclub Hotel and lost her life, many hearts were broken.
We loved her, we must all agree and hopefully, we’ll see her again in a better place.
She died in April 2021.
Riky Rick
Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado popularly known by his stage name Riky Rick, was one of Mzansi’s greats, his combination of talents was practically incomparable, he was a gifted artist.
He graced stages all around the world South Africa and beyond and left only one feeling with fans all across. The feeling of satisfaction, and the need for more.
Riky Rick was instrumental in the nurturing of other talents as he owned a record label dubbed “Makhado Makhado Agency”
According to reports, Rick committed suicide after was said to be a loss against depression which he had suffered from for a long time.
He died on Feb 22, 2022.
