Tol As* Mo has announced that he is returning back to stand up comedy. This comes after his retirement three years ago where he said stand up comedy put a strain on his relationships so he decided to take a stand back.
On Tuesday, Tol As* Mo announced that he will be picking the mic back up again after dropping it in 2019.
“I can't believe that I am going back on stage again after 3 yrs of getting to know myself and my ancestors better. I left the industry because it cost me so many people that I considered to be my friends,” announced the comedian.
“I learnt the hard way that when days are dark friends are few. But it also was a lesson I needed to learn. I promise to give you the best of me every time I step on stage and in front of the camera. It's good to be back and I thank God for showing me the way. I live and die for stand up comedy, that's why I have tatted on my arm #Tolassmocomedy.”
The comedian was facing rape allegations made by actress Lerato Moloi. He celebrated being acquitted with a lengthy statement, adding that he will be pressing charges against the model.
“On 16 August 2022, I, Mr Mongezi “Tol A$$ Mo” Mahlangu was vindicated and accordingly acquitted of all the charges leveled against me by a South African court of law,” reads the statement.
“I have maintained my innocence despite the false and malicious claims of an alleged rape made by Ms Lerato Moloi, which have caused immense damage to me, my family, my children, my professional reputation, and subsequent loss of livelihood, negatively affected my overall mental health and emotional wellbeing.”
Lerato previously released her own statement alleging that the rape incident apparently happened in 2014.
“For many years, I have been battling to find the courage and support to speak up against a number of acts of violence which have happened to me.
“In 2014, I was sexually assaulted and raped by Mongezi 'Toll Ass Mo' Mahlangu while working on a television production in Paarl, Western Cape.
“For numerous reasons, I did not open a case at the time and only shared this experience with one of the other participants on the show”, she said in the statement.
Toll Ass Mo's lawyers had ordered Lerato to remove a tweet where she made the allegation.
In the statement, she said: "In the past two month’s I have been served with letters from his attorneys to remove my tweets.
“A protection order was then applied for against me along with an interim order demanding that I delete my tweets and effectively attempting to silence me just after I found my voice to speak about my experiences."
