Monday 30 March will go down as one of the greatest moments in South African comedy for a long time. It has just been confirmed that Trevor Noah will replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. Jon, who announced his retirement from the Comedy Central show in February, will officially leave in September and after several hours of speculation, our boy Trev has been confirmed as his replacement. This has to be the truest testament to the star's talent.

The New York Times reported that the TV network will announce Trevor has been chosen as the new host. According to the site, Jon said in a statement: "I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.” Mr. Stewart added that he “may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!"

Trevor Noah took to Twitter to react to the news. He wrote: "No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!"

This is incredible news for Trevor Noah. Can there be any doubt that Trevor Noah is the most talented comedian in South Africa?  Here's what people are saying about Trevor Noah and his newest appointment:

We cannot stop congratulating Trevor Noah. He's been absolute trooper ever since he made his breakthrough in South African entertainment and his humility in accepting this appointment has been heartwarming. Trevor has joined the exclusive list of TRULY INTERNATIONAL South African celebs, including the likes of Charlize Theron, to be cutting it in Hollywood.

Well done Trevor, we wish you the absolute best of luck on The Daily Show, as we are sure you're going to be a star! Please don't grow an American accent, that's all. Thanks!
