If there is one that has managed to instantly win the hearts of millions of viewers it has to be Gomora. The show introduced new faces to viewers and their enthralling performances and fresh storyline will leave you mesmerized.
The show competes with several other shows on DSTV but it remains unshaken as according to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela. The telenovela is still sitting at the number 1 spot. The show has retained its spot as the most-watched TV programmme on DSTV. Phil reports that the show managed to pull 1.3 million viewers for its highest watched episode in December, numbers don't lie right?
"TV: Gomora still number 1 The Mzansi Magic telenovela has retained its spot as the most-watched programme on DStv with 1,34Million viewers tuning in for its top episode in December 2020," he wrote.
A few months ago Gomora managed to dethrone The Queen. The show which is produced by Mzansi's power couple The Fergusons has been dominating Multichoice's top 3 most-watched shows for several years but now Gomora is taking over.
During the lockdown period, Uyajolala 9/9 managed to keep more viewers entertained and glued to their small screens when the show played. In June, the show retained its record-breaking streak by pulling 2,8-million viewers. In May the show had 2.5 million viewers, making it the third most-watched show on DSTV
Gomora has been raising the bar as last year it won big at the prestigious 4th Royalty Soapie Awards aired on SABC 1. Gomora's Sicelo Buthelezi, who portrays Teddy, walked away with the Outstanding Newcomer award. The young thespian who is one of Mzansi's fresh talents has been getting his flowers for his incredible acting talent.
Even Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi praised his acting and his scenes will leave you begging for more and even reaching for the tissues because he is killing it.
“First of all, I would like to thank the man above, I would like to thank my mum for supporting me. I would like to thank my sister. I would like to thank my little brother. I would like to thank the cast…” said the young actor in his acceptance speech.
Gomora's Sana Mchunu, who portrays Zodwa Teddy's mother in the soapie walked away with the Outstanding Supporting Actress. Gomora also won the award for Outstanding Directing Team and won the public vote category, Most Popular Soapie of the Year.
