AKA has just dragged MTV Base and the rappers featured on the channel's annual Hottest MCs roundtable discussion and debate. The F.R.E.E. superstar was tired of beefing with Nigerian Tweeps and he decided to bring things closer to home this week when he slammed the popular top-10 feature.
You just knew that MTV Base was going to upset somebody this week. Every year the music heads invite some of the biggest movers and shakers to their studios in order to debate the rappers who have made the biggest impact in the hip hop and music industry, and this year was no different.
This year's panel featured some of the biggest names in hip hop and street culture including DJ Double D, DJ Sabby, Mercia Tucker and a few other notable faces.
Their choices have already riled up the country; Sho Madjozi's inclusion in the top 10 had people talking about whether or not she deserved to call herself a rapper. One person who was not entertaining any talk of MTV Base's Hottest MCs is AKA who sent a very strong message to his followers when he wrote:
Ouch! Anybody who knows AKA will also know that this attitude from him is nothing new. The rapper has made no secret of his disdain for MTV Base and its Hottest MCs feature. In fact, he once went as far as demanding that he be kept off of future lists; and he said this while in the MTV Base offices!
Considering that the Top 5 is still to be unveiled (yup, we are only halfway through!) we wonder if AKA might take back his words if he is named as one of the best rappers in the country.
A quick look around social media will show you the AKA is not the only rapper who is upset with the Hottest MCs list. One person who was particularly mad is Cassper Nyovest, who slammed the media over her treatment of Nadia Nakai. Cassper felt as if his protege should have been placed higher on the list.
Who do you think will make the MTV Base Hottest MCs Top 5?
