If South Africa has a sweetheart, or ‘bundle of joy’ - as her name loosely translates, then it is media personality, rapper, actress, model and businesswoman, Boitumelo Thulo. Most commonly known as Boity. However, if you’re around my age (a millennial in their late 20’s) then I’m almost 100% certain that you already knew who I’m talking about because she definitely needs no introduction.

Our “bundle of joy'' is definitely a go-getter and after dropping out of Monash University due to lack of fees, she set her eyes on achieving greatness. Boity began her ascent into fame with an appearance in a fast food commercial back in 2010 and from there, she was unstoppable and literally explored any and every opportunity presented to her.

Coming from a small town in the North Western province, Boity attributes a major part of her upbringing, zeal, deep-rooted humility and knowledge to her maternal grandparents, this is as her mother was in the big city working and her father had another family.

If you are like us, and have been following Boity’s career over the past few years, then you’ll know that Boity is no stranger to seeking out new opportunities. As earlier mentioned, Boity holds numerous titles and she has a full resume under her belt, this landed her a spot in the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 class of 2019.

Boity does not hold back when it comes to fashion and glamour and that is something we absolutely love about her. She always makes sure that she shows up and shows OUT! From red carpet events to Polo games and event launches, Thulo’s figure hugging outfits are always something to feast on. Her love for fashion saw her partnering with clothing brand Sissy-Boy for a denim collection which was touted to be all about ‘being sexy and celebrating ones curves.’ She also graced the cover of Cosmopolitan SA and Afropolitan magazine, what a cover girl!

In 2017, at one of the country’s biggest arena’s Boity made her rapping debut where she joined Nasty C on stage during the Migos Culture Tour. Later in 2018, Boity released what would be the first ever single by a female rapper in South Africa to be certified Platinum, making it the best selling record of all time by a female rapper in South Africa. Her debut single ‘Wuz Dat’ featured fellow rapper Nasty C and it won ‘Best Collab’ at the 2018 South African Hip-Hop Awards. She definitely was not done with music because in 2019, she released her second single titled "Bakae'' and in 2020 released her EP 4436 which has been nominated for Best Hip Hop album 2021 at the 27th Annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs 27).

The rapper is also known for throwing and attending lavish intimate parties for friends, namely Maps Maponyane and most recently Anton Jeftha. The Ba Kae hitmaker has also been rumored to be dating both these men, on separate occasions of course, and she often refers to them as ‘bestie’. Well if the rumors are true it's safe to say Boity sure knows how to spoil her man!

Recently, Boity was involved in a physical altercation with Bujy Bikwa. The incident happened in a hotel in Johannesburg and the star later took to her social media to confirm the altercation. Many fellow celebrities such as DJ Zinhle, Mihlali Ndamase, Nadia Nakai, Denise Zimba and Cassper Nyovest rallied around her and showed their support.

Anyway, being a mogul in the entertainment industry, Boity has really worked her way up the ladder and made a name for herself. It’s clear she’s not slowing down anytime soon, and honestly, that’s the kind of energy we love to see. Read more: Boity Thulo the entertainment mogul
