Mampintsha, whose real name is Mandla Maphumulo, is a music producer. The start to his career was when he formed the group Big Nuz which went on to become very popular and won multiple awards. Mampintsha went on to release a solo album in 2018, The Gentle Don.
Mampintsha is a South African musician and producer born in the Umlazi township of KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. His real name is Mandla Maphumulo.
Not much is known about Mampintsha’s parents and family life before he became famous. However, Mampintsha’s mother, Zama Gumede, has made news all over social media for creating a lot of drama in her son’s life, more often than you would expect. But, more on that later, so keep reading to find out.
Mampintsha started his career at the age of 20 when he joined the music group Big Nuz along with two fellow artists - Mzi Tshomela and Sbu Khomo.
The group started in 2002. It performed jingles in an attempt to get a record deal. Later, they collaborated with Koloi Lebone and Beatmaker but never released any songs.
In 2004, Big Nuz was featured in a song called Boom Boom by an artist named Ishmael. Eventually, in 2006, they finally landed a record deal with Gallo Records and released their first album Zozo.
Sadly for the group, the album did not do well on the charts, and many people criticised the label for its inadequate management skills.
In 2008, the group signed a record deal with Afrotainment and released an album called 2nd Round Knockout. The album did surprisingly well, and this earned the group the title of the “Kwaito Kings”.
In 2009, they performed at President Jacob Zuma's inauguration. The group went on to release a lot of hit albums until 2015, when they released their last album, For the Fans.
Unfortunately, on the same day of the release, Sbu Khomo passed away due to surgical complications. The album received awards which were dedicated to Sbu Khomo.
After that, Mampintsha went solo and signed a deal with West Ink Records. Here, he met Babes Wadumo, with whom he released a single, Wolol in 2016. He released another single called Jo’burg which commemorated his life and his days with Big Nuz.
Babes Wadumo (real name Bongekile Selimane) and Mampintsha met at West Ink Records, where they worked together. The two got to know each other, and soon she became Mampintsha’s girlfriend.
The two have been known to inappropriately flaunt their relationship all over social media. They shocked their fans when they made an Instagram video showing off their wedding rings.
This was especially surprising as they were formally engaged but had never announced that a wedding was on the horizon.
This was the beginning of the drama between Babes Wadumo and Mampintsha’s mother. Zama was greatly offended when the two did not invite her to the wedding.
She said it was culturally inappropriate as she was not given the opportunity to carry out certain traditions and give her blessing to the couple.
Instead of calling the couple out on this, Zama decided to publicly attack Babes and her family.
Mampintsha's relationship has been embroiled in drama. When Babes announced her pregnancy, Mampintsha’s mother did not believe it and stated that she was using “sponges” to fool people into believing lies.
This followed a series of retaliation. When Zama heard that the two had a baby, she was outraged. She claims that she wasn’t even told about it, and she had to find out through social media.
The couple even decided to give their child the nickname “sponge” to mock Zama. To this, Zama retaliated by saying that their marriage was “cursed.” Things got very heated and sour.
Mampintsha stopped visiting his mother and buying her groceries. She went public with this information as well and added to the ongoing drama but eventually, Zama wanted to make amends and reached out to Babes.
Many fans are always asking questions about Mampintsha’s kids. But as of now, Mampintsha has only one son, who was born earlier this year.
Mampintsha is reportedly feuding with his family after her mother Zama Gumede and sister Pinki Gumede supposedly bad-mouthed him to the producers of the family's reality television show, Uthando Lodumo.
He further accused them of being jealous of his success and allegedly abandoned them. His mother said she remains unaffected as he doesn't provide any financial assistance to her.
Additionally, Mampintsha's mother Zama Gumede and his sister Pinki are angry about not being paid for their appearance on the show. Consequently, they've both asked to be dropped from the show.
However, Mampintsha argued that the payments for the show are not done on a monthly basis.
In March 2019, a shocking video of Mampintsha assaulting Babes was posted on social media. She was heard shouting in Zulu, saying, “why are you hitting me?”
He is seen following her around a hotel room, walks away, comes back and slaps her again. Soon after this, Babes pressed charges against him and Mampintsha was arrested and later released on bail.
However, the case never made it to court. Babes dropped the charges against her husband and they were able to sort out their issues with the help of a mediator. The two have since worked on their relationship and are still very much in love.
Mampintsha and Babes have posted multiple photos posing in front of a black Mercedes-Benz V-Class. As for Mampintsha’s house, there isn’t much information to go on, except that he lives with his wife Babes in Johannesburg.
Mampintsha’s net worth is estimated to be around $400,000.
In 2016, Big Nuz won a South African Music Award for Best Group of the Year.
In 2015, he won Best Kwaito Album and Best Duo of the Year.
In 2012 and 2013, he won the Best Kwaito Album Award at the South African Music Awards.

In 2008, at the 9th Metro FM Music Awards, Mampintsha won Best Kwaito Album, “2nd Round Knockout.”
