Manaka Ranaka was born in Soweto, Johannesburg on 6 April 1979 to her parents Kgotlasele Ranaka (father) and Nonceba Ranaka (mother).

She has four siblings - Dineo Ranaka, a popular television and radio presenter, producer, DJ and actress, Mpumi Ranaka a writer, motivational speaker and businesswoman, Ranaka Ranaka a DJ, actor & events organiser and Mzingisi ‘Ziggy’ Ranaka an entrepreneur.

It seems as though Manaka Ranaka was destined to be an actress. ‘Drumstuck’, ‘On my Birthday’ and ‘Trong’ were the first productions she acted in straight out of high school in 1998. 

In 2000, she stepped onto the big stage when she joined the cast of SABC 3’s soap opera ‘Isidingo’ and played the role of Nandipha Sithole. 

Manaka Ranaka’s time at 'Isidingo' came to a controversial end after she was fired for being pregnant. Manaka revealed that her bosses asked her to abort her child to remain part of the cast but she decided to carry her baby to term.

Two years later, Manaka Ranaka acted on SABC 1's ‘Gaz’lam’ as Portia. 

In 2003, Manaka Ranaka was on SABC 2, this time for 'Stokvel'. She acted in all eight seasons of the show as Lerato Khumalo.

In 2005, the Documentary series 'Sex TV' was her next gig. She took part in its seventh season in the ‘Media in South Africa’ episode.

The following year, Manaka Ranaka fronted the line-up of ‘One Way’ on SABC 3. She played the role of Nozuko. In the same year, she got a support role in 'Vinolia Ntuli' on SABC 1.

‘Home Affairs’ was Manaka Ranaka’s next show. She joined the cast in its fourth season and also starred in a drama series ‘Society’.
