Mlindo The Vocalist, whose real name is Lindokuhle Magedezi, was born on 5 October 1995, in KwaZulu-Natal’s Port Shepstone community. 

The talent was born into a family of musicians as several of his family members are musically gifted. 

One of his younger brothers, Sfiso, aka Sfeesoh, plays the keyboard and has played some of his songs. 

With 13 siblings from his father’s side and four from his mom’s side, Mlindo comes from a huge family. 

The star studied for a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Zululand but dropped out in 2018 to focus on his music career. He said that he hopes to complete his studies but in a different course.

Coming from a family that is musically gifted, Mlindo started singing in the church choir at the age of four. Social media was a big contributor to his rise. 

He posted covers of popular tunes, including Ganda Ganda by Babes Wodumo. Then, at 16, he started working on his own tunes.  

In an effort to get his career started, he moved to the Eastern Cape in 2010 and joined a hip-hop group called the Flow Riders. 

In 2014, he and some mates established a famous Acapella group, White Bread, that became quite a success and won Search for the Stars. Mlindo also won the Golden Search Talent Competition at Richards Bay in 2017.

In February 2018, DJ Maphorisa discovered the lad when he posted a cover of the popular song “Midnight Starring” on his Instagram feed. By September 2018, Mlindo The Vocalist’s album, Emakhaya, debuted and became an instant hit.  

The album was certified gold in December 2018 and was nominated for “Best Afro Pop Album” and “Best Produced Album” at the 2019 South African Music Awards (SAMAs).

Mlindo the Vocalist put up a very empathetic Instagram post in which he claimed he didn’t do it. The star said he wasn’t even at the SAMA awards with his girlfriend and that he would never do such a thing: 

“I have been getting calls from newspapers, and I have not hit anyone. I don't know what the person who started this is trying to do,” he said.

DJ Maphorisa accused Mlindo The Vocalist of betraying him after he dropped him and struck a deal with Nyiko Bilankulu, his road manager. 

According to Maphorisa, he introduced Mlindo The Vocalist into the industry and provided him with everything, only for him to branch out as an independent artist, despite being contracted to his record label, Blaqboy.

Maphorisa went on and alleged that Mlindo wanted to return to his label and he'll take him back as he's moved on from the saga.

In another twist of events, Howard Gomba, Mlindo The Vocalist's childhood friend claimed that Maphorisa wanted to force Milndo The Vocalist to switch genres, yet he wasn't comfortable about doing it.

Gomba accused Maphorisa of not caring about Mlindo's interests. He didn't respond to these allegations.
