Mr SA Finalist, Dale Horne, is always a welcome  contributor on Zalebs having covered events as well as given us wonderful fitness tips. This week, however, he's focusing on giving back to the community as he kicks off Spring in a memorable manner. Let's see what went down!

In the hearts of many South Africans is the will to make a difference to those less fortunate. On the 2nd of September 2013, I was able to experience that thanks to another life changing initiative arranged by Damelin College, Boksburg.

A major charity drive was held at the Damelin Campus in Boksburg in order to celebrate the beginning of spring. The event was held in conjunction with several companies including Virgin Active, Nedbank, Absa and Mini cooper. The event was held to welcome the new season with a massive charity drive for the St Francis Care Centre.

Over the last two months, Damelin Boksburg students and staff have been collecting tinned food and clothing for the St Francis Care Centre. This food was collected with the intentions of being handed over on the day; and what a day it turned out to be! Damelin music students were showcasing their skills on the music decks, creating an awesome, memorable atmosphere. Other students took to setting up stands filled with cupcakes, popcorn and many other irresistible treats to raise money for this non-profit organization.

The highlight of my day was spending time with the Rainbow Cottage children. These little guys have been neglected or abandoned; some from birth, others from ages up to 5 years. The majority of them are HIV positive, yet the constant smiles and joy on their faces put life into perspective for me.

This event was another Proudly South African moment for me. I witnessed corporates, staff and students uniting to make a difference in society. If anybody is looking for a non-profit organization to support, then check these guys out! Truly inspiring individuals, surviving against all odds: http://www.stfranciscarecentre.co.za.
