MTV Base Hottest MCs Promises To Ruffle Even More Feathers This Year

The explosive and trendsetting MTV Base Hottest MCs returns for another year. The list, which sends Hip Hop fans into a frenzy every year, will yet again be chaired by presenter Tshego Koke.

In a statement, MTV speaks on the impact the list creates in the Hip Hop scene. If you have never been mentioned before, then there is probably some work that you need to do because only the best of the best for that year, get recognized. MTV prides itself for being the platform that a lot of hip hop lovers tune into enjoy. It is described as the "must-watch for South African hip-hop heads.” 

“Each year, MTV Base rates the hottest hitmakers in the rap game from number 10 to number 1. The host serves as a mediator for the panel of six hip-hop industry judges whose criteria for the Hottest MCs list includes the MC’s impact, bars and lyrics, sales, buzz, and x-factor,” a part of the statement reads. 

The statement continues with Senior Vice President and General Manager at Paramount Africa Monde Twala, speaking on the outrage the list creates in the community. 

“Over the years, the list has garnered recognition and has sparked passionate discussion among fans of hip-hop about who should hold the coveted top slot. MTV Base promises that this year’s countdown will be just as exciting as last year’s. 

“Be prepared to bop your head and pick yourself up off the floor because this list not only features the established artists in the hip-hop industry, but also recognizes those who made the prestigious list.”

He then describes Hip Hop as being a culture for a lot of people, who also look to this list to make up their minds about who is the best in the game. 

“Hip-hop embraces authenticity and is a way of life for many people. The impact of hip-hop culture can be seen in so many facets of modern life, from fashion and dance to language and politics. MTV Base continues to be at the forefront of youth culture and celebrates South African hip-hop. 

“Our local artists have made the country and indeed the continent proud and they have upheld the significance of preserving the South African sound. Hip-hop today sounds more like home than ever before,”

You can watch the show on December 1 and December 2, which will be a two-part special on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) at 5:30 pm. MTV Base Hottest MCs is an annual list that is judged according to the following criteria: Bars and Lyrics, Impact, Sales, Intangibles (X Factor).

The list never misses when it comes to ruffling feathers. Last year, Maphorisa came in with the hottest verse out there on his song Izolo. Many felt as though he should be given a spot on the list, however he got snubbed. 

Many of our rappers always disagree with the list especially if they are not mentioned.
