DJ Maphorisa might need to think carefully about dragging other people into his twars. The BlaqBoy Music owner attempted to gloat that he was nominated, kind of, with Sha Sha’s hit single, “Akulaleki”, getting a nod as one of the Record Of The Year (ROTY) nominees at The SAMAS as way to get back at Prince Kaybee.
But the jab opened a can of worms as tweeps then wanted clarity on the logic of having a Zimbabwean born national getting nominated at The South African Music Awards. Mind you, Sha Sha is not nominated on the Best International Act, but the best song to come out of South Africa.
While DJ Maphorisa might have feigned ignorance, that did not stop tweeps from dragging, defending and pulling out receipts about past non-South African nationals that have either been nominated or won an award in the past. But the tweet suggested that DJ Maphorisa must just be careful about how he brags the next time.
