Singer Donald Moatshe was arrested for on Sunday night when he was caught by police doing 182 km per hour in a 120 km zone.

Moatshe, who is the second high-profile South African singer to be nabbed for speeding over the festive season, after Afrikaans crooner Steve Hofmeyr was bust just ahead of Christmas, was taken into custody but released on bail of R2,500.

He is expected to appear in the Umhlali Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Moatshe was driving an Audi Q3 at the time of his arrest and reports suggest that he was accompanied by a couple of friends from Swaziland.

Moatshe was almost killed in 2011 when he was involved in a serious car crash that left him hospitalized for a long time.

It was following that crash that he penned some of his most popular songs including I Deserve and Over The Moon, as he suffered both physical and emotional pain – after his girlfriend left him at the same time.

Recalling that period of his life Moatshe told Sunday World, "My partner didn't visit me while I was lying in hospital. Not once. I endured a double pain because I was physically in pain and her actions also caused me a lot of heartache.

"The doctors said I needed to be around people in order to cope psychologically. I needed my woman to be there for me more than ever, but she disappeared and I've never seen her since," he says.
