Black Coffee's 12-track masterpiece called Subconsciously, was highly criticised by South Africans because of his change in music. Many said he steered away from his African roots, to sound more international so he could accommodate the wider market.
One of the people who said he prefers the old version of Black Coffee was Heavy K. But he got misquoted by MacG who blatantly lied on Heavy when he said the Drumboss said the album was 'pap', in other words bad.

During his Monday episode, MacG spoke about his encounter with Black Coffee during an event and how it went smoothly. Then he said Black Coffee is a huge supporter of the podcast because he remembers everything that was said about him on the show, which means he watches some of it.
"Black Coffee is a chiller bro, he remembers every single thing we have ever said about him on the podcast."
Then MacG took it back to Heavy K's interview when he was on Podcast And Chill and said this about him, "I think we did an interview with Heavy K, I even forgot about that interview, and Heavy K even said the album Black Coffee won a Grammy for was pap," said MacG.
His team all looked confused because they do not remember that but Sol tried to remember it.
This did not sit well with Heavy K who pulled out receipts from his interview and defended himself. In the interview, Heavy K said, "The old Black Coffee is one that inspired me. I can say that the new Coffee, is a very smart grootman. He calculates everything. There are places that he has been to that I have not been to. Maybe he has seen doors for him to explore, but for me it will always be that old sound."
Now Heavy is fuming at MacG for misquoting him and said he will not tolerate people lying about him. "One thing I won’t allow is for people to lie on my name or project me as something I’m not just to push their narrative."
In the next clip he shared, he asked people to judge where he said anything negative about Coffee.
Heavy did not stop there, he slid into Coffee's DMs and sent him proof that he did not say anything bad about him. Coffee said when he spoke to MacG about Heavy K's opinions, he said he would have confronted Heavy K directly.
"When we had this conversation with MacG I said exactly what you said. If you had said anything I was uncomfortable about, I would have asked you."
Black Coffee is aware of the negative reactions to his album subconsciously which by the way is a Grammy award winner. He once addressed this issue last year on Ukhozi FM saying the song he did with international DJ David Guetta called Drive, made him very famous globally, which is why he then decided to change.
“One of my biggest tracks was the one I featured David Guetta called Drive, that song had many streams because we worked hard on it. What contributed to its success was the fact that he has a lot of followers. People will always have their different opinions, they know me as a Deep House artist but all of a sudden they see me doing a song with Black Coffee. I needed to show leadership and refrain from explaining a lot of things. I wanted to show my versatility,” he told the radio station.
He said he has international fans that he needs to make feel included in his music, therefore the versatility. “I have people I work with internationally when we meet up we sit down and discuss how we are going to do the album. This is the first album that allowed me to work with international artists to this extent. Even locally, we have so many artists who are extremely talented and who show great potential.”
