Model and presenter K Naomi has landed in hot water, again, after her offensive tweet about HIV and AIDS.
K Naomi has messed up again and the masses are coming for her (again!). Her latest gaffe could be seen as a failed attempt to raise awareness and educate people on HIV's prevalence in the country; however, her wording offended the masses.
The presenter took to Twitter to air her thoughts on HIV and AIDS but she quickly wished she hadn't after her tweet went viral. The now-deleted tweet originally read; "HIV AIDS is becoming a norm. This is scary..."
Immediately after she posted this, people flooded her mentions and some even commented saying that their efforts in trying to destigmatise HIV/AIDS in local communities are held back by "ignorant" people like her.
K Naomi released a statement after the backlash she received, along with a string of statistics to educate the people who were against her statement. A part of it reads;
"There are an estimated 7.97m people living with the disease in SA alone. Of those 7.97m my family has been directly affected by the disease,"
"I've noted with keenness how little many of you think of my intelligence and lack therefore. I can accept that... Seeing someone suffer form AIDS and any other disease is scary and painful."
This is not the first time the personality has been marred with some backlash whenever she attempts to engage in such sensitive topics.
Last year, her derogatory comments on mental health had people criticizing her lack of knowledge and her inability to engage in medical topics.
The deleted tweet read, "I hate bipolar people… You can’t always switch up, choose your vibes and be about them,"
She later apologised for the tweet and tried to justify her statement, but the Twitter streets never forget.
