The South African Music Awards (SAMA28) selection criteria has left a lot of social media users foaming at the mouth. The prestigious music awards were held over the weekend in a 2-day affair, and it is clear as crystal that they were 'not giving.' The SAMAs are no stranger to controversy and this year they dropped the ball again, from the production to the winners, and social media users think they should take a break.

Taking to her Twitter account, self-proclaimed Amapiano queen Lady Du took an aim at the awards. Lady Du who is one of the country's hard-working amapiano stars was not honored at the SAMA's this year despite her diligent work.

She said even though she did not submit to be nominated, she was not invited nor booked to perform. "I would like to ask if nepotism works also at award ceremonies????? How does a person get a tender for organising artists to perform on stage, then the artist he is managing gets the biggest award of the night??? I want to know because Nina niya thula e South Africa??? Mina ngeke," she asked.

The musician continued "Do you know why a lot of us didn’t go or even perform there? Because we already knew who was going to get what!!! The set up was too obvious Stay woke niyeke ukus yenza amabari! Mina I don’t keep quite because I don’t work for people that control my brand! I’m independent," she continued.

She also revealed why she never attended the SAMAs this year.
Lady Du is not the only artist who is not impressed with the SAMAs. Limpopo native Makhadzi said she is done with the awards ceremony. The singer called out the SAMAs in a Twitter rant accusing them of sabotaging her performance.

She claimed that she was given 5 minutes to rehearse for her performance. The singer performed her smash hit MaGear, but her performance was short and not eye-catching. In now-deleted tweets, Makhadzi wrote.

"I rehearsed with a cellphone on the stage to get my choreography. I asked to rehearse with the camera guys so they can read my moves no one listened to me. I asked for smokes and fireworks they promised but never delivered. But I remained a queen."

She dumped the SAMAs and said her main focus now is to make music for her fans.

"The award I got was my blessing from my ancestors I am sure the person who changed the name will be fired tomorrow. I don't want summer (SAMA) awards anymore. I want to do my music for YouTube, so my fans can buy data and support me without favour. "
