Maps Maponyane following the end of Top Billing has seemingly focussed his efforts on travelling and earning money from his travels. This is besides joining the likes of Boity Thulo and Terry Pheto as one of the ambassadors for the internationally recognised champagne Moet and Chandon Champagne.

However, it seems that his affiliation with Terry Pheto almost landed his name in disrepute. This comes after the fall from grace by the Tsotsi actress, as reported

Terry Pheto’s brand as an actress and activist was tarnished as she was linked to a National Lottery Council (NLC) corruption scandal. As shared before:

“The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) welcomes a preservation order from the
High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Pretoria to freeze nine luxury properties in Pretoria, Centurion, Hartbeespoort and Johannesburg, a BMW 420i and two ocean basket franchises in the East Rand with the combined value of approximately R25 million.

SIU investigations in the affairs of the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) had revealed that the acquisition of the properties was funded. by the Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) with money they had received, under the auspices of grant funding, from the NLC.”

In light of the recent events that saw her Bryanston home go for auction. There were yet more “revelations” on the SIU NLC corruption scandal which seemed to suggest that Maps was also involved. But that has since been clarified. However, the news of his vindication came as he was to experience an actual financial loss.

Maps Maponyane business account cleared by hacker

A day after murmurs that Maps Maponyane was the next ZAlebs that was set to be investigated by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Legal SA took to Twitter to retract its murmurs. This is as it seems that the Twitter account aimed at pushing the story first without verification from the SIU.

Hence, the Twitter account retracted its previous report in a thread explaining that:

The tweet that Mr. Maps Maponyane is being investigated by the SIU in this regard and was directed by an unverified source by one of our junior writers. The tweet that Mr. Maps Maponyane  has now been deleted and The Legal South Africa wishes to apologise to Mr. Maponyane.

The statement went on to add that Maps was unaware of even being investigated. As a result, the publication has taken the decision to fire the journalist behind the tweet and unfounded story.
While this might have been good news for Maps and his reputation, it came at a time when his bank accounts were hacked. It seems that when the personality was in Dubai, he lost his cards. Thereafter, the person who found or stole the accounts hacked his bank accounts.

More than that, Maps alleges that the hacker and scammer has all but cleared his business account. Looking for some silver lining, Maps asserted that he was looking forward to his upcoming birthday as he is set to turn 33 years old on Thursday, 16 March 2023.
