When they say, “after God, fear men,” they must have meant men like Phiwe Maphanga, allegedly. This comes after songstress Moneoa Moshesh, who is looking for a comeback in the entertainment industry revealed why she took her hiatus.
The last time we had from the More Than You hitmaker was back in 2017 during her live performance of Jr.’s Feel Good Sessions. At the time, the musician and actress was happily in love and on her way to getting married to what was then a mysterious man whose identity was not revealed. The same year she seemed set for a long career as one of the most prominent vocalists by landing a deal with Lux.
But shortly thereafter, all we had of the soulful musician was her old catalogue and the promise of a new album. In 2022 she began making her return to music with her first public interview held in August 2022 on Kaya’s 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka. On the show, when asked about her hiatus she had revealed she was not ready to go into detail. But did reveal that it was related to the flames she experienced due to umjolo.
Now she has come out with a truth that women not only found relatable but a common occurrence by men without good intentions.
Moneoa’s relationship & financial woes after ex-fiance Phiwe Maphanga
Taking to Instagram on Friday, 19 August 2022, when other musicians were releasing music. Moneoa took to Instagram to reveal isgaxa which has still left us depleted with the many yohs we had during her retelling of her love story turned into a tragedy with ex-fiance Phiwe Maphanga. Her first post in series of three posts was a disclaimer in which she contextualised by stating that:
“I’m gonna share something with all of you that has not only weighed stress on my heart and mind for over 5 years now but has also inconvenienced my life in ways I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I can’t stand that it’s come to this but unfortunately I feel that I’m left with no other choice. I want to clarify that I don’t hate Phiwe Maphanga but I now realise that his refusal to cooperate in this matter has nothing to do with any difficulties he has with resolving it.”
Thereafter, she went live and shared how her Maphanga allegedly ruined her life professionally and financially. In the videos she claimed that:
- Maphanga was a swindler with no home or defined career
- That he coerced to leave her record label for one he would establish for her, only to later swindle her from booking fees and releasing her album without her knowledge
- She adds that Maphanga was abusive and left her with debt over two cars, a BMW and Range Rover. A fact which resulted in her losing her apartment and subsequently needing mental help to recover from the trauma and substance abuse issue as a result of the relationship and its demise.
In her words:
Maphanga alleged to be married
While social media was still processing the news of Maphanga and the toxicity which defined his relationship with Moneoa. First, the identity of the Chinese sugar mama he was dating before Moneoa was revealed:
Subsequently, it was then shared that Maphanga at the time of all these events was allegedly still married to Gauteng ANC deputy provincial secretary Tasneem Motara.

Social media has been supportive of Moneoa for the most part as it is believed that her story is a reflection of many other women’s stories about the extent they go to support and propel their no-good-for-nothing men.
