A day meant for the love birds to celebrate their love turned into a tragedy when Oscar fired a shot through a locked bathroom door and killed Reeva. In court, the blade runner testified that he thought there was an intruder in the house, and he mistakenly thought Reeva was the intruder.

As the world celebrates Valentine's Day today, the day brings back dark memories to tweeps who are remembering the late Reeva. They haven't forgotten the Oscar caused to the model's family. Check out these reactions on Twitter.
Oscar is currently serving a 13 year jail sentence for murdering Reeva. He was recently moved from a prison in Pretoria to one in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.

In 2021 a close friend of him, Bill Schroder, told The Witness that Oscar pleaded with Reeva's family to forgive for murdering their daughter, and he was a changed man.

"What he really, really wants is forgiveness. I said to him that if he had killed my daughter I doubt I would forgive him." "He is more concerned about forgiveness than actually getting out on parole. I fact, he has a real fear about getting parole as he knows there will be a backlash," he said

Bill told the publication that Oscar had turned to God. Oscar was sentenced to 13 years and five months in 2016 for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The Paralympic gold medalist was initially sentenced to six years but the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his sentence.

During the trial Oscar, maintained that he mistook her for an intruder when he pulled the trigger.

"I believed that someone had entered my house. I was too scared to switch a light on. I grabbed my 9mm pistol from underneath my bed. On my way to the bathroom, I screamed words to the effect for him/them to get out of my house and for Reeva to phone the police. It was pitch dark in the bedroom and I thought Reeva was in bed."

He said he thought Reeva was in bed sleeping when he fired the shot through a bathroom door.

"I fired shots at the toilet door and shouted to Reeva to phone the police. She did not respond and I moved backward out of the bathroom, keeping my eyes on the bathroom entrance. Everything was pitch dark in the bedroom and I was still too scared to switch on a light. Reeva was not responding."

"When I reached the bed, I realized that Reeva was not in bed. That is when it dawned on me that it could have been Reeva who was in the toilet. I returned to the bathroom calling her name. I tried to open the toilet door but it was locked. I rushed back into the bedroom and opened the sliding door exiting on to the balcony and screamed for help. I put on my prosthetic legs, ran back to the bathroom, and tried to kick the toilet door open. I think I must then have turned on the lights," he said.
