Prince Kaybee every now and then manages to surprise his fan base by either dropping pearls of wisdom, or when he forgets about his media persona and is just himself on social media. However, his recent tweet surprised us the most as the “Yehla Moya,” hit maker shared his political views.

This past week for all our non-political ZAlebs, has been racially charged politically speaking. A week ago a high school in South Africa’s own little country of the Western Cape, Brackenfell High School to specific; thought it would be a good idea to host a whites-only matric dance. Yes, in 2020, there are still racist acts like that that still occur. Mind you, Brackenfell High School on paper is a multi-racial secondary school.
After news of the whites-only matric dance that excluded students of the colour at the school, our favourite red motif political party the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) decided to get involved. The first strike action was meant to be peaceful, but racist whites being racist whites turned violent knowing that there will be no repercussions for their actions. Well, from the SAPS at least.
But this past Friday, the EFF returned to Brackenfell High School in their numbers. Considering that this was a return to the scene of the initial crime, it seemed that both the EFF and the community of Brackenfell were ready for round two. And the streets of Brackenfell were lit as the two opposing camps, with the SAPS as “mediators,” took it to the streets- literally.
While many of our faves would not care to comment or even acknowledge what happened; Prince Kaybee seemed to have wanted to add his two cents. And one thing about Prince Kaybee is that once he is set his mind, no one will stop him. First he let us know that we, as black people, should not be afraid to confront racism. Especially, considering that it is 2020. While the SAPS might not defend or protect you the same way they would our differently colored counterparts, that does not mean do not stand up for what is right.
When his fans attempted to give him kudos for having spoken up about the situation, Prince Kaybee was the voice of humility. The “Project Hope” creator went as far as quoting one of his weaker lines when embroiled in a social media twar. Prince Kaybee stated that he is not a celebrity, when a fan thanked him for not being afraid to use his platform as a celebrity to highlight the ongoing injustices in South Ah. We are so happy as locals to think that it only happens in the extreme in countries like the United States, until we are shown that even in South Ah, things are still bad 26 years into the rainbow nation.
