Controversial and opulent businessman Sam Mshengu who caused quite a frenzy last year when he travelled to the Vodacom Durban July with his convoy of 72 cars' real name and identity has been revealed. This follows after his appearance in the Middleburg Magistrate Court.
Mshengu is facing charges linked to allegedly trying to bribe a senior police officer to release his impounded luxurious G Wagon vehicle. He also tried to make his 2019 corruption case disappear. In 2019 Mshengu was charged with holding fake citizenship, fraud, corruption, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition but was later released on R200 000 bail.
This month Mshengu was arrested by the Hawks after a sting operation when he tried to bribe the officer in Nelspruit. He allegedly paid a whopping R 120 000 for the release of his car and to make his docket disappear.
His real identity has always been a hot topic on everyone's lips. Mshengu claimed he was born in Makwarela, Venda, but the court proceedings let the cat out of the bag about his real citizenship and name.
After months of speculation and denial, his real name was revealed in court and he is Gilbert Tachuona and he hails from Zimbabwe. To add fuel to the fire on his matter, Sam allegedly obtained a South African ID through misrepresentation.
Mshengu is currently behind bars, last week he asked for a bail of R5,000 but was denied.
