Viewers of BB Titans have picked up that the female Nigerian housemates, specifically Jenni O, Olivia, Yvonne and Jaypee have formed their own clique in the Big Brother House. A fact which on the surface makes sense considering that they share the same nationality.
However, it slowly became clear that their clique was formed in an effort to separate themselves from their South African housemates. Especially following their subtle offensive comments. More so when Yvonne referred to the South African female “housemates” as things.
However, towards the end of The Big Brother Titans, it seemed that social cohesion finally worked in the Big Brother mansion as the divides in the house were not based on geographical locations but on interpersonal relationships. As seen with the relationship between former contestants Yaya and Marvin.
As such, it seems that Showmax wants a bit of the action too following the announcement of their latest dating reality show.
Showmax’s I Want A Naija Boy gets mixed reviews
On social media, a video went viral which features a South African girl announcing the latest dating reality show by Showmax. Titled I Want A Naija Boy, the show is premised on South African women who are interested in dating and finding love with specifically Nigerian men, and vice versa.
As such, it was initially believed to be a joke. However, when going on Showmax’s Instagram account, it reveals that the promotional trailer is true and the show is actually happening.
Hence the mixed reactions to the concept of the show. This has to do with the fact that there is already tension between South Africa and Nigeria over the xenophobic attacks which took place in the 2010s in the country.
Moreover, there is already contention over the trend of South African women dating Nigerian men with terms like “jollofinas” and “jollofs” already being used as derogatory terms directed at persons who date over the South African and Nigerian lines.

Calls for the show to be cancelled have already started. However, it is unclear whether they will work or the show will go on to trend on social media and be a ratings winner for Showmax.
