This follows after the security guards accused of murdering him have not yet faced the full wrath of the law as they appear to still be on the streets. Several Twitter users feel the justice system in the country has failed him and his family.
The #JusticeForThapeloMaropefela has gained momentum on Twitter and several Twitter users say justice will not be served until those responsible for his gruesome murder are brought to justice. His brother Kamo Maropefela said although he wont see him again, the law needs to take its course.
Daily Sun reported last month that Thapelo's life was cut short by three security guards who allegedly assaulted him. The alleged assault incident took place in Maboneng, Johannesburg where security guards assaulted him with 'heavy objects' causing grievous bodily harm. His uncle, who represents the Maropefela family, revealed this to the paper.
“He was brutally assaulted by security guards in Maboneng. They bludgeoned him causing grievous bodily harm. He died from the wounds inflicted on him. We will miss his infectious smile and calmness in difficult situations.
We can’t believe we’ve lost such a promising young actor. At 25, he has achieved beyond our imagination. He was passionate about his talent and focused on mastering it. He loved his family and friends so much, gave the biggest hugs and the brightest smile,' he said.
Thapelo's mom recently celebrated his birthday and penned a heartfelt message to him. "25 years ago you brought happiness I never imagined possible into our lives. Today 8 grown Zimbabwean men gave me the deepest pain I ever thought possible. They hurt my child so bad! I thank God almighty for giving me these short years with you. I can’t say rest because you had so much energy! So much zeal for life! I cant! I just can’t! God will bring justice to all even though my child will never be back,"
We hope those who are responsible for his death are brought to justice so that his can finally get closure.
