There have been a few local productions and actresses that have received impressive and important international recognition.
Actresses such Brenda Ngxoli and Thuso Mbedu have previously been nominated at the prestigious international Emmy awards for their respective work.
The latter is a two-time Emmy nominated actress for her stellar portrayal of Winnie on Mzansi Magic's Isithunzi. Whilst the former was nominated in the best actress category for her brilliant performance on Home Affairs. Although they did not scoop the Emmy gong, they remain Mzansi's pride.
This time around, 1Magic's hit telenovela, The River, has been nominated for Best Telenovela at this year's 47th international Emmy awards. The awards show will take place on 25 November 2019 in Hilton Midtown, New York.

This isn't the first time that a South African production has landed on the Emmy space.
A few years ago, political satire comedy show on etv, Late Night News, received two Emmy nominations in two consecutive years. The show was hosted by respected comedian, Loyiso Gola, but has since been taken off air.
Congratulations to the team at Tshedza Pictures for putting together a stellar show for the audience. #TheRiver1Magic is definitely an iconic show that deserves all the recognition there is in the world.
