It's a rumour that's been swirling around all week but it doesn't seem to be going away. According to City Press, some four actors have been approached by e.tv to play a role in its new telenovela.
An industry source who claims to have all the information has gone on record and said that ETV is working on a new show titled Gold Diggers. The Alleged telenovela will air in February next year, with the intention of running for 104 episodes.
The source added that they show will be produced by Clive Morris Productions the production house behind 50/50 and Forever Young.
“Nambitha Mpumlwana, Sophie Ndaba, Zolisa Xaluva and Zikhona Sodlaka are some of the people who have been approached by e.tv so far,” two impeccable sources told City Press.
“But by the look of things, it seems they want to recruit all the axed Generations actors to be on this show.”
Monde Twala, e.tv’s managing director for channels, was non-committal when he was approached for comment.
He said in an email that e.tv was cooking up a new and “spectacular” line-up for the 8pm weekday slot in the New Year.
“The offerings are packed with serial drama, intensity, a cast that will shock you, engage you and quench your thirst for more entertainment,” he wrote in the email.
“The market is craving a fresh alternative and we have just what it needs. We are looking for the very best of South African talent.”
But he added that the channel was “not at liberty to confirm any names at this stage”.
“Information will be revealed once all deals have been concluded.”
One of the three sources have confirmed that no contracts had been signed yet, but the negotiations were under way between the four former Generations actors and e.tv.
