Is there a difference between someone who dresses well, and someone with style? The short answer is "yes". But what makes the difference? Surely, someone who always looks impeccable, looks so because they have a measure of style? Not so fast.
From our interactions with you on social media, it is safe to assume most of you believe Bonang to be an impeccable dresser, and perhaps even the most stylish celebrity on these shores. Indeed, she's been the recipient of several style awards including the much revered SA Style Awards, and last year, one Nomzamo Mbatha was the recipient of the most stylish performing artist accolade at the SA Style Awards.
It's not hard to see why they'd be decorated with such accolades. Rarely has either of these starlets stepped out on the red carpet looking anything less than enviable.
Nomzamo is often in beaded or African print gowns. This is the signifier of her style - sticking as closely as possible to an African aesthetic. Bonang is the opposite, her style is less anchored in an African aesthetic, but packs glam in truck loads thanks to her more than capable go-to designer Gert-Johan Coetzee.
Style is defined as a manner of doing things, and if anything; everyone has a manner. Above, we clearly define the manner with which the two approach fashion. But surely there should be a measure of uniqueness one relates to anyone deserving of an accolade like "most stylish", no? I would say so. There should be something that sets one apart from the rest as far as their style is concerned. Your man might be the best looking dude in a tailored suit, but someone who looks less clean-cut might be light years ahead of him as far as style, swag, how they carry themselves is concerned. That's what sets them apart. That is style.
Do you feel Bonang's taste for the glam, or Nomzamo's penchant for prints make them stand out from the rest? Do you agree with us when we say Malusi Gigaba is our most stylish minister? Engage us on Facebook and Twitter, by using the hashtag #ZalebsStyle, and tell us which local celebrities you follow on social media, just to take a look at what they're wearing lately.
We look forward to finding out who, exactly, you think is the land's most stylish.
