Speaking to Katlego Maboe and Zoe Brown on this morning's episode of SABC 3's Expresso Show, comedian John Vlismas stated that he thinks jokes about weaves are stupid.
Why?
Vlismas says it is merely because he prefers jokes that contribute to a national conversation and that is why he decided to call his upcoming stand-up show, The Good Racist. The title is jarring, but those who are familiar with Vlismas' comedy will understand why he chose to go that route.
The aim of his show is to get people talking about racism as opposed to most South Africans' default defence mechanism of denying their racism or denying the fact that it continues to exist.
Capetonians who are interested in the show can catch the live, 90-Minute showcase on Saturday's (12 August) additional show at 5pm at The Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town. The 8:15pm shows on 11th & 12th are both SOLD OUT.
