Semoko started playing the character of nurturing ‘Ma Agnes’ as far back as 1998, the same year the first episode of ‘Isidingo’ was aired on SABC3, but she recently decided that the time had come for both her and Agnes to move on with their lives.

And on 12 August, Agnes and her husband Zebedee Matabane traded the drama in Horizon Deep for a more peaceful life on a farm in Thaba ‘Nchu.

Speaking to Sowetan LIVE, Semoko said she’s thankful to have had the opportunity to tell the stories of both pain and happiness that South African women endure and experience throughout their lives. But with a storyline running all the way through giving birth to becoming a grandmother, she reached a point where she felt she’d told them all.

Semoko filmed her last ‘Isidingo’ scene in May and rewarded herself for a job well done by deciding to travel; something which she revealed will be incorporated in the journey of her career going forward.

Careful not to give too much away, she told the publication: “I have been on a break travelling. I was recently in the east, something interesting is coming my way and it has to do with travelling but I can’t talk much about it right now.”

Besides her longstanding role as Agnes Matabane, Keketso Semoko starred in 2004 made-for-TV movie ‘King Solomon's Mines’, alongside Patrick Swayze, and also features in local films including ‘Mr Bones’, ‘A Reasonable Man’, ‘Drum’, and ‘An African Story’.
