APC Picks Salisu for Ogun Central, Tella for Abeokuta North Ahead 2027

Politics

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the adoption of Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the party’s consensus candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District, while Hon. Babatunde Opeolu Tella was selected as the consensus candidate for Abeokuta North in the State House of Assembly. The move follows the party’s internal agreement on candidates for the two constituencies.

Political actors in the state have framed the decision as an important step aimed at reinforcing cohesion and maintaining continuity within the APC across Ogun. Both men are also seeking second terms in their current legislative roles, positioning the endorsement as a bid to carry forward what supporters describe as ongoing work in their areas of representation.

On Friday, Hon. Moruf Erubami, Leader of the House for legislators in Abeokuta North Local Government, congratulated the two candidates on their selection. He said the endorsement demonstrates the confidence of party structures in their past performance, leadership style, and ability to deliver on public expectations.

Erubami described Senator Salisu’s nomination for a second term as a reflection of the senator’s influence in the district and the confidence he has cultivated among party leaders and residents. In his remarks, he said the adoption is “a testament to the impact of his representation and the trust he has built among party leaders and constituents.”

He added: “On behalf of the legislators in Abeokuta North, we congratulate Distinguished Senator Salisu on this well-deserved endorsement. His dedication to quality representation and commitment to development continue to inspire confidence across the district.”

The House leader also highlighted Hon. Babatunde Tella’s emergence as the consensus pick for a second term, praising his role in strengthening the APC’s position within the constituency. Erubami said Tella’s close connection with grassroots communities and his contributions in the legislature have helped consolidate the party’s presence in the area.

In that context, Erubami said Tella has shown the ability to serve effectively and remain accessible to constituents, adding that the endorsement signals assurance in the progress achieved so far and anticipation for further service. “Hon. Babatunde Tella has demonstrated capacity, accessibility, and effective representation. His endorsement is a clear vote of confidence in the progress recorded so far and the expectation of even greater service ahead,” he stated.

Erubami urged APC members and supporters to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace. He said the period called for teamwork, shared purpose, and a coordinated focus on delivering victory for the party.

“This is a time for unity, cooperation, and collective focus on victory for our party,” he said.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the consensus arrangement would promote stability and improve the APC’s prospects in Ogun State’s upcoming electoral contests. He also reaffirmed that lawmakers from Abeokuta North would continue to support the party’s candidates at all levels.
