Omewa Nets Twice as Nigeria Super Falcons Cruise Past Senegal 3-0

Joy Omewa struck twice and substitute Asisat Oshoala added a third as Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat Senegal 3-0 in their second international friendly at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Omewa set the tone by breaking the deadlock in the 48th minute, meeting a cross from Shukurat Oladipo and finishing with a powerful header. She then extended Nigeria’s lead seven minutes later, pushing through the Senegal defence and calmly finding the net.

Rasheedat Ajibade, captaining the side, sealed the win in the 66th minute. She drove forward before laying the ball off to Oshoala—introduced in place of Omewa—who slotted home to make it 3-0.

The result handed Nigeria a clean sweep over Senegal, following their success in the first friendly, and sent the Women Africa Cup of Nations champions into their preparations for the tournament in Morocco with maximum points from both matches.

For long stretches, the contest remained tight in the opening period, with the first half ending goalless despite Nigeria controlling much of the play. Ajibade tested Senegal from a set piece as early as the first minute, while Omewa struck the woodwork in the 15th minute after rounding the goalkeeper with the goal at her disposal. Gift Monday continued to cause problems at the other end, repeatedly unsettling the Senegal back line, but Nigeria couldn’t turn their dominance into goals before the break.

Senegal were made to pay shortly after the restart, with the stalemate broken just three minutes into the second half. Oladipo delivered a precise cross that found Omewa at the near post, and the forward headed in to give Nigeria the advantage their first-half showing had deserved. Omewa then added her second in the 55th minute, surviving pressure from her marker before finishing calmly to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Oshoala’s arrival provided an extra edge, and she immediately made an impact by scoring. She converted Ajibade’s pass to complete the scoring and cap a commanding night for the home team.

The Super Falcons are now focused on the Women Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.
