CAF acting general secretary Samson Adamu has hailed the Nigeria Football Federation’s ongoing work to build a players’ hostel and new training pitches at Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, calling the initiative a long-term boost for the country’s game.
Key takeaways
- Samson Adamu praised the NFF’s construction of a players’ accommodation block and training facilities at MKO Abiola National Stadium’s Package B in Abuja.
- Adamu visited the site on Monday with Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
- The CAF official described the project as a “legacy” investment aimed at strengthening Nigerian football for years to come.
- Gusau said the build started in March 2025 on a two-year contract and has reached the fifteenth month, with about nine months remaining.
- One artificial pitch is reported to be roughly 80% finished, while other parts of the project continue progressing in parallel.
Adamu calls the project a “legacy” for Nigerian football
Speaking after touring the facilities, Adamu said the progress on the ground filled him with pride as a Nigerian, adding that the outlook for the future appeared “extremely bright.” He argued that the kind of infrastructure being developed would help produce the next generation of top-level players for Nigeria.
Adamu specifically emphasised the importance of modern venues and training environments for a country the size of Nigeria, stating that the available facilities should be able to support not only the senior national team but also age-group sides across the federation’s programmes. He also congratulated the NFF leadership for what he termed a laudable legacy project.
Site inspection tied to CAF planning
Adamu also explained that the visit formed part of a broader working trip connected to preparations for a CAF Congress and a CAF Awards ceremony planned in Nigeria, with the dates still to be confirmed.
Gusau, meanwhile, provided an update on the timetable and quality of the work. He said he was content with both the speed and standard of execution at the site, noting that the development’s location near the NFF headquarters allows for regular oversight and checks as construction continues.
He added that the federation would keep backing the contractors to make sure the project finishes within the agreed window, with construction scheduled to run its course before the completion target under the original two-year contract terms.
