Nigeria’s reigning sprint hurdles star Tobi Amusan delivered another standout performance by claiming gold in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan on Sunday.
Amusan crossed the line in 12.72 seconds to take first place, edging out Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang, who finished second in 13.17 seconds, while Yi Po-an secured bronze with a time of 13.37 seconds.
The winning run also proved significant beyond the medals, as it earned Amusan a new meeting record. Her time of 12.72 shaved off the previous benchmark of 12.80 seconds, a mark that had been set by Nia Ali, the US Olympic silver medallist and former world champion.
The 29-year-old was in control from the outset, showing her form in the qualification rounds before carrying it into the final. After competing in Heat 2, Amusan maintained her momentum and ultimately completed the job by winning the race at the end of the competition.
