Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho says Nigeria will head into today’s Unity Cup match against Zimbabwe with composure and belief, rejecting any suggestion that the recent results between the two sides can unsettle the team.
Zimbabwe have managed to remain unbeaten in their most recent two meetings with the Eagles, but Uzoho—who is serving as standby captain—insisted that the responsibility that comes with wearing the green-and-white is matched by the expectation to win.
“We may not have beaten Zimbabwe in the last two games, but we are Nigeria. We are never intimidated by any opponent,” Uzoho said. “We understand what this match represents, and we will put everything into it.”
The shot-stopper also appealed to supporters to remain patient as the team continues its rebuilding process, stressing that the pressure of representing Nigeria is part of the job.
“When you play for Nigeria, there is pressure. There will be moments of difficulty and moments of joy, so please bear with it,” he added.
Uzoho welcomed the competition for the gloves and highlighted that Arthur Okonkwo, the latest addition to the setup, has settled well within the group and is expected to strengthen the goalkeeping options available to the coaching staff.
Nigeria begin their Unity Cup campaign against Zimbabwe on Monday at The Valley in London.
